Prayer is Powerful

I believe that no matter what we are going through we can always cry out to God in prayer.

Yesterday I was shocked by the news of Heath Ledgers death. He was a 28 year old Australian actor who appeared in movies including The Patriot, Brokeback Mountain and soon to be released The Dark Knight where he plays the psychotic, mass murdering, schizophrenic clown the Joker.

Acting as the character of the Joker had a horrible effect on his life and eventually led to his death. He is quoted in an article saying.

“Joker is a psychopathic, mass-murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy…Last week I probably slept an average of two hours a night,” he said. I couldn’t stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going.”

“Perhaps, just perhaps, playing such a dark, evil role had a terrible affect on him. He obviously thought so.

This wasn’t the campy, funny, comic book role of the Joker on the television series.

This was something much more darker, much more disturbing.”

If we can’t pray to God to help us with our everyday struggles, who can we call out too.

There is a lot of speculation as weather or not this was an accidental death or a suicide. This was a death caused by society and how money hungry we have all become. There was a lot of stress in this young mans life. We have put so much stress on actors that I’m surprised most of them are still breathing. Imagine if you were a celebrity and you couldn’t even go outside without a strobe of lights hitting you from every angle from the rude and inconsiderate Paparazzi. Oh and what are they working for? Money. We no longer see people as people but instead as commodities to make money off of. It is deeply upsetting to me that even in the tragedy of death the paparazzi is still trying to make a quick buck.

Was anybody concerned about Ledgers health when they saw how real he had become as the joker? or when he stated he could not sleep at night due to this role. Actors deal with so much stress. They deal with the stress of the Director to perform well while doing multiple takes and working long hours. They deal with the stress of the Paparazzi and not being able to live a normal life. And they deal with the stress of their everyday life.

A lot of people do not know how to handle the stresses of their lives. This is why most will take drugs in order to cope. In Ledgers case he took prescription drugs in order to help him sleep at night (sleeping pills), Does the drug company want us to get better? if we got better we wouldn’t need to buy their drugs (money?). The only answer to all these problems is prayer. If we pray to God to relieve us of these stresses he will. If we pray to God to help us to sleep at night he will. If we pray to God to comfort us in the loss of a loved one he will.

I pray for the family of Heath Ledger as they mourn the loss of their son. That God will comfort and draw them closer to him.
