Recently Chris Tucker from 413 Studios and I discussed what the top 10 superhero movies are and here is our top 10.
10. Batman (1989)
Tim Burton does a magnificent job bringing the Batman character to life on the big screen. Michael Keaton does an outstanding job in his role as Bruce Wayne and Batman, combine his incredible acting skills with that of Jack Nicholson as The Joker and you have a smash hit. Batman was my favorite superhero growing up because of this film.
9. The Shadow (1994)
Before he was on 30 Rock Alec Baldwin was The Shadow. The Shadow began as a radio show and later became a movie. The Shadow inspired superheroes Batman and Zorro.
“The Shadow Knows”
8. Hellboy (2004)
I saw this movie a while ago. I really didn’t want to watch it because I thought it would be too scary or wouldn’t be that good, but it was actually pretty good and it’s number 8 on our list.
7. The Crow (1994)
Hey guys, Chris Tucker here from 413 Studios. The Crow is a different kind of comic book movie. It is a very dark and intense story with meditations on death, loss, and revenge. Much like the classic story of Bruce Wayne becoming Batman to avenge a loss, the crow does the same, but stays in the darkness a little bit longer and instead of saving the city, The Crow is only concerned with bringing back order to his life.
6. Unbreakable (2000)
Chris will tell you that Unbreakable is an amazing film but not in the classic sense of powerful superhero’s protecting the public from equally as powerful villians. Unbreakable is a unique tale of one man’s obsession and jealousy of another’s special power. The pace is slower than most superhero films but the atmosphere that builds and the pay off twist at the end we’ll have you forgetting all about the low key nature of this brilliant movie.
5. Sin City (2005)
I just picked this movie up on Blu-ray and it looks absolutely amazing. If you are looking for a comic book style movie, this is the one.
4. Spider-Man (2002)
I don’t care what anyone says about The Amazing Spider-Man, this is the best Spider-Man ever created. I know that Spider-Man 3 was a complete disaster but I don’t blame Sam Raimi for that.
3. Iron Man (2008)
A lot of great Marvel superheroes have been overshadowed by Spider-Man and The Hulk so when Marvel announced they were making an Iron Man movie, I didn’t think much of it. After seeing this movie, Iron Man is now one of my favorite superheroes. Robert Downey Jr. was cast perfectly for Tony Stark. He is Iron Man. I love John Favreau as a director and I’m sad that he won’t be directing Iron Man 3.
2. The Avengers (2012)
The Avengers is an amazing movie and is number 2 in our top 10 superhero movies. I could watch this movie over and over again. Remember to wait until after the credits to see the final scene. I was a little disappointed that they changed the actor who played The Hulk, from Ed Norton to Mark Ruffalo, but I think Ruffalo did an outstanding job as the Bruce Banner character. I thought this movie was going to be a pile of junk because most movies with multiple characters usually are. The Avengers is a thrill ride from beginning to end.
1. The Dark Knight (2008)
Chris and I went back and forth over what the number 1 superhero movie would be in our top 10. Some might say number 1 should be The Avengers and others might say it’s The Dark Knight. Heath Ledgers performance as The Joker is what makes this movie number 1 in our top 10 superhero movies. Nobody thought Ledger could top Jack Nicholson’s Joker but he proved us all wrong. It’s sad that this is the role that killed Heath Ledger, see my post about that here To say Heath Ledger was an amazing actor is an understatement. This man risked his life to bring this psychotic, mass murdering, schizophrenic clown to life. The Dark Knight is our number 1 movie in our top 10 superhero movies.
